Personal Top 10 Sneakers of 2015
With 2015 coming to an end I thought it would be apt to do a reflection on the shoes that have accompanied me in every step I took during this exhilarating journey. The following sneakers are released across various years, featuring some limited collaborations as well as general releases.
10. Puma x A Bathing Ape Disc Blaze
Perhaps the "loudest" shoe I own with the all over green camo and the iconic disc. Generally there isn't a lot of love for this pair due to the high supply and the hard-to-dress Disc Blaze silhouette. However, this collaboration was well thought through with the apt color blocking and the speckled midsole.
9. Vans Sk8 Lo
Got this pair in New York this year along with the Sk8 Hi just because. I wear this on a daily without having to worry about it getting smashed.
8. adidas Ultra Boost Triple Black
Blacked out the midsole after the white got dirty. Personally, I would have loved if adidas released them this way. Apart from the aesthetics, comfort is amazing and these are on my feet whenever I know I'm going to be out all day. I'm looking forward to what the Ultra Boost has to offer in 2016
7. A Bathing Ape Shark Bapesta
Bape's iconic 1st yellow camo on the Chuck Taylor silhouette. I've always wanted to add these to my collection but was reluctant due to the high retail price. Was lucky these came up on a massive discount so here they are. Perfect pair for lazy people like me with the added lateral zip.
6. Diadora N9000 x Patta 'Colonel Blue'
Never had the love for Diadora when they first came back from its archives in 2014. I mean, why would I spend $200+ on a pair of Diadoras when I could spend it on bigger brands like Nike instead? However, after seeing multiple collaborative releases I could totally understand why. Every single pair is Made in Italy with premium materials and great comfort. This particular pair celebrates Patta's 10th Anniversary featuring Japanese suede and is the start of Diadora's collaborative efforts. Only set back is the bleeding of the tongue on to the laces and paint peel on the midsole.
5. Nike Air Jordan 1 x fragment design
The Air Jordan 1 has always been a favorite silhouette of mine. In fact, I'm not much of a fan of any other Air Jordan. The 1 isn't too bulky like the others and are built like tanks, which is why I wasn't hesitant to pay a premium for this collaboration.
I've always admired Japanese craftsmanship and design so I was really excited to see fragment design's Hiroshi Fujiwara rework this iconic model.
4. Nike Sockdart x fragment design 'Loden'
Hater at first but can't stop loving them now. The Nike Sockdart was around back in 2004 but never gained popularity. Again, this is a collaboration with fragment design and Fujiwara played a vital role in allowing the Sockdart to be in the position they are now. Extremely comfortable and always with me when I travel
3. Puma R698 x Ronnie Fieg 'Sakura'
Inspired by the sakura, the color scheme depicts the progression of a blooming sakura. It houses multiple shades of pink and white, not the easiest to match but definitely a head-turner.
2. Nike Flyknit Trainer White
I think these are a must-have in everyone's collection. The first rendition of the Nike Flyknit which are now out of production. Perfect for every occasion, whether its for a night out with your date or session in the gym, versatility and aesthetic at its finest.
1. Air Jordan 1 'Shadow'
As previously mentioned, I love Air Jordan 1s and yes, I favour these over my Fragments and the Breds and Royals as well. The black and grey work so well together and they look even better over time.
